Description
« Goodbye Broadway, Hello Montreal » is the Jazz musical that celebrates the metropolis in the 1920s. Written at the height of the so-called Prohibition era in the U.S., the song was recorded by renowned composer and musician Harry Warren, and sums up the sentiment of thirsty tourists.
During Prohibition, the rebellious Montreal became an oasis for liquor tourists. As one of the only major cities in North America not subject to Prohibition, the impact on the city’s tourist industry, nightlife and reputation was major.
But what was going on in the grand ballrooms of one of Canada’s grandest hotels? The majestic Windsor was certainly home to big parties and jazz musicians dispossessed of their venues in the USA.
A hundred years later, let’s relive a Prohibition-era evening in one of the city’s biggest party havens.
