Built in the midst of the Victorian era, offering the splendor of a palace and hosting some of Montreal\u2019s most extravagant receptions, the Windsor was once considered the finest hotel in the country. Largely devastated by fire, the hotel gradually lost its glory, eventually closing its doors. That was at the end of one October\u2026 The hotel may no longer be there, but some guests never seem to have really left its walls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s through this ghostly atmosphere that our guests will let themselves be bewitched by the vestiges of a sumptuous past, suspended between life and the beyond. \u201cPEUR BLANCHE\u201d is an elegant, mysterious evening of opposites. Present, past. Shadow, light. The real, the other world. For one evening, we\u2019ll blur reality with the spectres of the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab Goodbye Broadway, Hello Montreal \u00bb <\/em><\/strong>is the Jazz musical that celebrates the metropolis in the 1920s. Written at the height of the so-called Prohibition era in the U.S., the song was recorded by renowned composer and musician Harry Warren, and sums up the sentiment of thirsty tourists.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During Prohibition, the rebellious Montreal became an oasis for liquor tourists. As one of the only major cities in North America not subject to Prohibition, the impact on the city’s tourist industry, nightlife and reputation was major.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what was going on in the grand ballrooms of one of Canada’s grandest hotels? The majestic Windsor was certainly home to big parties and jazz musicians dispossessed of their venues in the USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A hundred years later, let’s relive a Prohibition-era evening in one of the city’s biggest party havens.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
